Role Overview
As Product Manager for Broadcast & Live TV, you will own the product requirements and roadmap for Live TV, HbbTV, and broadcast-related features on Whale OS. Based in Rotterdam and working closely with our broadcasting testing lab there, you will translate complex technical inputs – from DVB standards, HbbTV specifications, and broadcaster requirements – into clear, well-structured product requirements that drive OS 10 releases. You will represent Whale TV at industry events and with broadcaster and certification partners, while working as a core member of our global OS 10 Product Management team and reporting directly to our Kiel-based Director of Product & Design.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the product roadmap for Live TV, HbbTV, and broadcast-related features – from requirements definition through delivery and post-release evaluation, working in close collaboration with design, engineering, and QA.
- Write clear, well-structured PRDs with independently testable acceptance criteria. Define success metrics upfront and track outcomes after release – not just whether something shipped, but whether it worked.
- Translate incoming broadcast and interactive TV requirements from internal stakeholders and external partners into prioritized, actionable backlog items. Push back on requests that lack a clear user need or business rationale.
- Serve as Whale TV's primary interface with HbbTV ecosystem partners, broadcasters, and certification bodies – gathering insights, managing expectations, and feeding them back into the product.
- Represent Whale TV at industry events in Europe and use the Rotterdam testing lab for certification preparation and hands-on validation.
- Ensure broadcast features meet regional standards and content requirements across supported markets.
- Stay actively engaged with R&D and QA throughout the development cycle. PRDs are the start of a conversation, not a handover document.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in HbbTV or interactive TV tech with a strong technical foundation (Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field).
- 3+ years of product management experience, ideally in consumer electronics
- Existing contacts in the broadcaster or HbbTV ecosystem are a strong plus.
- Strong written English; able to write PRDs that designers, engineers, and QA can act on without ambiguity.
- Comfortable working in agile teams – and equally able to navigate waterfall processes such as certification timelines and customer delivery schedules.
- Structured thinker with sharp prioritization instincts. Willingness to travel regularly to attend industry events and meet with stakeholders.
- Proficient with standard PM tooling (Jira or equivalent, Confluence).
